Alter Ego
Alter Ego
This is an activity for my Philippine Art History Class where we had to create an indigenous alter ego for a family member or pet.
I designed an indigenous alter ego for our family pet, a red-eared slider named Roi.

Presently, Roi has grown to his adult size, so I portrayed him as an adult Filipino male. Roi is mostly stationary during the day, only moving when he has to eat, so if he were human, I imagine him to be quite large.
He also has a serious, and sometimes angry, demeanor. The colors of his pants are inspired by the textile from Northern Luzon. The usual colors found on their garments are red, black, and white. The diamond pattern is also a common design used in their weaving.
Although Roi lives a mostly sedentary lifestyle, I gave him headhunting tattoos because of his snarky and tough attitude. He likes biting people’s fingers and eating live insects.
The tattoos on his arms are called binulibud, while the tattoos on his back are called dakag. These are tattoos from Kalinga, given only to brave warriors who have killed people.
